Ivan A. Bulychev On the newfound horologion (Moscow, December 1689), which is known before that only in the documents from the 17th century

Abstract
The Article focused on the attribution and dating of the incomplete copy of the Horologion (BMST/spk № 2342). Traditional methods allowed to identify the book only as a Moscow production, as determining its precise publication date became possible only after consulting the documents of the Department of printed books. This study has established the time period when the book in question was printed. Based on the the non-liturgical texts “Predislovie v Chasoslov” and “Predanie o slozhenii perstov”, the lower boundary for the publication date was set at 1684. Differences in the number of quires, print and number of lines between the examined copy and the Horologions printed in the 18th century set the upper boundary at 1700. The study concludes that the book was printed in December 1689. This edition of the Horologion was previously known only from the 17th century documents.
The analysis of the content of these articles, within the historical and political context of the Muscovite Czardom in the 1680s years, highlights both the reasons for their inclusion in this Horologion and the Print Yard’s policy regarding educational publications. The article also compares the liturgical order of this book with other Muscovite Horologions from the last third of the 17th century and examines the free distribution of the newly-printed copies of the December 1689 edition.
Moreover, the article specifies the time of writing of Simeon of Polotsk’s “Predislovie v Chasoslov” and details of Print Yard’s management report to Patriarch on printing costs.
